Child Advocacy Center

What happens at the Child Advocacy Center (CAC)?

The Child Advocacy Center serves children ages 3 to 18 who have made a disclosure of child sexual abuse. Families visit the Child Advocacy Center after a report of child sexual abuse has been made to Family Services or to the police.

Services of the Child Advocacy Center include case management, therapy, assistance obtaining victims’ compensation and relief from abuse orders when needed, coordinating medical exams, and information and referral to other programs, services, and agencies. Services are offered at our Child Advocacy Centers in Norwich, VT and in North Springfield, VT and both locations are staffed by The Family Place.

The Family Place is an accredited member of the National Children’s Alliance.

The Springfield location for the CAC interview center is located adjacent to the Springfield Area Parent Child Center in North Springfield, Vermont.   When you and your child arrive at the CAC, you will wait in the reception area.  this room has books, magazines, toys and coloring books to use while you wait.  A separate interview room is designed to make your child more comfortable.  The interview room has a video camera and microphone.  This equipment enables the interviewer to focus on the investigation and capture as much information as possible to avoid multiple interviews.

For more information, call the Family Place directly at 802-649-3268/800-639-0039 or go to the Vt. Children's Alliance at http://www.vtchildrensalliance.org/or the National Children's Alliance site at www.nationalchildrensalliance.org/
